Piaci Pizza in Ft. Bragg is the, and I'm not joking, is the finest pizza on the west coast. A tiny place serving pizza, beer, and salads. The beer is a nice selection of interesting local microbrews. The pizzas come in two sizes: slightly-too-much-for-one and slightly-too-little-for-four. The owner's from back east and clearly cares very deeply about quality, and has the taste and skill to back that up.
A tiny place with about 6 stools at a counter and several tables. Sardonic bartender. It's the only pizza place in Ft. Bragg on the *west* side of rt 1 (which is important to remember because there are several other pizza possibilities and you don't want to go there). It's across Redwood from the Mendo Bistro (also good), somewhat hidden in the back.
This should actually be considered a destination for pizza fans. Did I mention it's also one of the cheapest places in town to eat... |

A tiny little pizza place and a hidden gem of the west coast. My girlfriend and I hit it on our northern West Coast journey. It was late and they were most helpful in helping us navigate to our next destination. Especially considering the terrible road conditions along the coast. Thank you Chadwick and the other wonderful lady whose name I am forgetting!
On we go. Great people, great pizza and a stellar beer selection! What else do you need? Nice little tap selection ranging from North Coast to Moonlight to Russian River. Not to mention a great bottle selection. We really enjoyed a few of them once we finally got up to the Fortuna area. Rough drive it was. I loved the cozy layout and atmosphere of the place. I would certainly be a regular if I lived in Fort Bragg. I'm only sorry I didn't get around to adding my review sooner. The place deserves all the praise it gets.

Shockingly, since we are frequent visitors to Fort Bragg and the general area, we didn't know about this gem of a little establishment until a few weeks ago. It's right down the street from one of our favorite places, North Coast Brewing Company's Taproom and Grill. Let me say that Piaci is a worthy alternative to North Coast's fine pub if one is looking for variety and a godsend for pub crawlers. It's a small place so you might have to wait for a table, but it's worth the wait. We sat at the bar both times and were totally taken care of by the fantastic bartender Chadwick. A friendlier guy you would be hard pressed to find. The atmosphere was homey and people knew each other, very enjoyable. They have about eight beers on tap. Regular offerings ranged from Marin IPA to North Coasts Old Rasputin. They rotate two other taps regularly. A Moonlight black lager was on tap as was Poppy Jasper from the underrated El Toro brewery. The beer is well tended and served in proper glassware. Food is gourmet Pizza, Calzones and salads, and it's great. We scarfed down the pizza and relished our beer, all in a friendly, comfortable enviroment. I want to go back now! Fans of the North Coast need to check this place out as it's a gem. Another reason, like we needed one, to get up to this great area. Before I forget there is a large selection of bottled beers concentrating on the Belgian genre.

Best Pizza on the Coast: Piaci's - located at 120 W. Redwood, just off the ocean side of Main Street in the heart of Fort Bragg's downtown, is a small pizza/pub with a lot of microbrews on tap (try "Death & Taxes" or "Arrogant Bastard Ale") and a long list of gourmet pizzas. You'll find toppings like sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, gorganzola cheese and kalamata olives. Add a half Caesar salad and you'll be a happy camper.
The joint is rather small so whether you eat at the bar or at a table you'll most likely be sharing a space with other people. But don' t let that stop you because folks are friendly. Piaci is the kind of place visitors go home and talk about the "great little restaurant we discovered on a tiny, hidden side street." |
